NFL Draft and It's Marketing Power

This Thursday, 4/26/12, the 2012 NFL draft will be held in New York. This is the third year the NFL draft will start Thursday night in primetime. Prior to 2010 the draft started on Saturday's but once companies realized the marketing possibilities in a primetime spot, the NFL moved to Thursdays. The NFL draft will draw more viewers than the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, and the NBA regular season games.

This year Budweiser, Verizon Wireless, and Electronic Arts will be front lining a strong marketing push. ESPN has broadcast the event since 1980 and it has developed in to a premier television event. The first hour's commercial time slots sold at a market premium. A record number of television viewers is expected this year. Who do you guys think will be targeted by commercials in the first hour time slot?

The International Advertising Bureau reached a record online ad revenue in 2011.  Online ad revenue were $31 billion in 2011.  That is an increase of 22% over 2010 revenue of $26 billion.  I believe that is from the increase of internet use not only in the United States but also worldwide.  All over the world more and more people are using the internet for leisure and work.

If you were a business owner would you look to advertise your business online?  What benefits do you see from online advertising?

If I were a business owner I would certainly at least entertain the idea of marketing online. If I could justify the costs of placing the add I would defiantly do it. There are more people on the internet than ever before and I believe it is a great tool to reach prospective customers. They key is figuring out what form of online advertisement works best for your company.
